가야금의 유래를 문헌을 통해 살펴보면 고령이 가야금의 발상지이며, 악성 우륵의 고장임을 잘 알 수 있습니다. 고령은 이러한 역사를 간직만 하는 것이 아니라 국내, 해외로 범위를 넓혀 가야금의 세계화를 위해 애쓰고 있습니다.
또한, 우리 지역의 자랑스러운 가야금 현으로 대가야 고도이자 세계유산 도시의 자부심을 널리 알리는 데에도 앞장서고 있습니다.
어느덧 세계 현 페스티벌이 7회째를 맞이하였습니다.
「제7회 세계 현 페스티벌」에는 미국, 영국, 오스트리아, 중국에서 현악기 연주자들을 초청하여 세계의 다양하고도 아름다운 연주를 감상할 수 있는 자리를 마련하였습니다.
이번 공연 등을 통해 한국적인 것이 가장 세계적인 것이라는 걸 느끼실 수 있는 시간이 되시길 바랍니다.

I am honored to extend my heartfelt congratulations on the hosting of the 7th World String Festival here in Goryeong, the birthplace of the gayageum.
Historical records recognize Goryeong as the origin of the gayageum and the hometown of the great musician Ureuk. Our county has not only safeguarded this proud heritage but has also worked tirelessly to promote the gayageum on a global stage, both at home and abroad.
Our gifted gayageum performers continue to embody this legacy, proudly representing Goryeong—an ancient center of the Gaya Kingdom and a UNESCO World Heritage city—and sharing our cultural heritage with the world.
Now in its seventh year, the World String Festival welcomes outstanding string performers from the United States, the United Kingdom, Austria, and China, offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience the rich diversity and beauty of global string music.
I hope that through these performances, everyone will come to appreciate that what is uniquely Korean can also be truly universal.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Director Shin Tae-woon of the Goryeong Cultural Center and all those involved in organizing this festival, as well as to the performers who have brought world-class string music to our stage.

무더운 여름을 지나 단풍이 물들고 높고 푸른 하늘이 펼쳐지는 계절, 가을은 우리에게 차분한 여유와 사색을 선물합니다. 이러한 계절과 가장 잘 어울리는 현악의 축제인 『제7회 고령 세계 현 페스티벌』의 개막을 진심으로 축하드립니다.
먼저 오늘 뜻깊은 행사를 준비해 주신 신태운 문화원장님을 비롯한 관계자 여러분의 노고에 깊이 감사드립니다. 또한 행사의 성공적인 개최를 위해 지원과 성원을 아끼지 않으신 이남철 군수님과 관계 공무원 여러분께도 감사의 말씀을 드립니다.
아울러 바쁘신 일정에도 행사를 빛내주신 내빈 여러분, 그리고 멀리서 이곳 고령까지 와주신 세계 각국의 연주자 여러분께도 따뜻한 환영의 인사를 전합니다.
고령은 대가야의 고도(古都)이자, 우리 민족의 음악 혼이 깃든 악성 우륵선생의 고향입니다. 오늘날 우리가 누리는 가야금의 울림 속에는 우륵 선생의 정신이 살아 있습니다. 바로 이 역사적 토대 위에서 ‘현악으로 세계와 소통하다’라는 슬로건을 내걸고 세계와 하나 되는 음악의 장이 펼진다는 것은 너무나 큰 의미와 추억이 될 것입니다.

As the sweltering summer passes and the leaves turn to brilliant autumn colors beneath the high, clear skies, the fall season gifts us with calm reflection and a sense of tranquility. It is with great pleasure that I extend my heartfelt congratulations on the opening of the 7th Goryeong World String Festival, a string music festival that perfectly suits this season.
First, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Director Shin Tae-woon of the Goryeong Cultural Center and all the organizers for their dedicated efforts in preparing this meaningful event. I also wish to thank County Governor Lee Nam-cheol and the public officials who have provided unwavering support to ensure the festival’s successful execution.
I would further like to extend a warm welcome to the distinguished guests who have honored us with their presence, as well as the international performers who have traveled from afar to join us here in Goryeong.
Goryeong is the ancient capital of the Gaya Kingdom and the hometown of the legendary musician Ureuk, whose spirit continues to resonate in the music of the gayageum today. Against this historical backdrop, the festival—under the slogan “Connecting the World through Strings”—creates a space where music unites people across the globe, making it an event of profound significance and cherished memories.

In this season, when the autumn colors are at their most beautiful, it is with great honor that I declare the opening of the 7th Goryeong World String Festival.
The slogan of this year’s festival is “Connecting the World through Strings.” This is not merely an occasion to appreciate string instruments from various countries, but a statement of our commitment to creating a space where the world can understand and connect with one another through music. This year, we have invited string creators who are actively performing across the globe, designing the festival in a way that allows their fans to join and interact, creating a new form of musical celebration. This festival will be more than just a stage for art—it will serve as an open forum for communication across generations, cultures, and borders.
Goryeong is the birthplace of the gayageum and a place where musical tradition continues to live. The gathering of today’s creative artists in this historic space to create new harmonies signifies Goryeong’s role as a center of music that connects the past, present, and future on the global stage.
To the domestic and international performers sharing this stage, and to the audience members who have come to join us, you are the true protagonists of this festival. I am confident that your passion and support will make today in Goryeong an unforgettable experience filled with inspiration and emotion.
