고령은 대가야의 고도이자, 악성 우륵이 활동한 가야금의 본고장으로서, 지역의 역사적 전통성을 바탕으로 가야금의 계승과 발전을 도모하고, 나아가 전통문화 예술의 창달을 선도하고자 군립가야금연주단을 2015년에 창단하였다.

연주단은 초대 감독인 강미선 음악감독을 비롯해 가야금 연주자 9명, 가야금병창 4명, 타악 연주자 2명 등 다양한 구성으로 이루어져 있다. 연주단은 지역 전통문화의 가치를 알리고 보급하는 역할을 수행하고 있으며, 매년 정기 공연뿐만 아니라 문화예술 교류사업 등 다양한 공연을 활발히 펼치고 있다. 이를 통해 고령의 전통 음악과 가야금 예술을 널리 알리고, 지역 주민과 관객들에게 전통음악의 아름다움과 예술적 가치를 전달하는 데 주력하고 있다.

Goryeong, once the ancient capital of the Daegaya Kingdom and birthplace of the legendary gayageum master Ureuk, is celebrated as the cradle of the instrument. Drawing on this rich historical and cultural heritage, the Goryeong County Gayageum Ensemble was founded in 2015 to preserve and advance the tradition of the gayageum while promoting the development of Korea’s traditional performing arts.

The ensemble, led by Music Director Kang Mi-sun, brings together nine gayageum players, four gayageum vocalists, and two percussionists. It plays a key role in sharing and promoting the value of local traditional culture through annual concerts, cultural exchange programs, and a variety of other performances. Through these activities, the ensemble highlights Goryeong’s musical heritage and gayageum artistry, conveying the beauty and artistic depth of traditional Korean music to local residents and audiences worldwide.
